ZEKE’S ISLAND FAMILY ADVENTURE TOUR

KURE BEACH, CAROLINA BEACH

Cost: $60 Per Person
Duration: 3 Hours
Launch Point: Zeke’s Island Reserve

This tour is for kayakers of all ages! On this tour, you’ll often experience calmer waters, depending on the tides and weather. If you’re looking for calmer, glassy waters, we recommend that you book during the early morning or evening hours. Keep in mind that the waters are somewhat unpredictable. Our Kure Beach guided kayak tours are focused on sight-seeing and exploring, so we’ll stop several times throughout our journey so that you can explore on foot!  So don’t worry, this isn’t three hours of intense paddling!

ZEKE’S ISLAND NATURE TOUR AND FORT FISHER BASIN

KURE BEACH, CAROLINA BEACH

Launch Point: Zeke’s Island Reserve

The nature tour ventures out into the flat water of the Fort Fisher basin where there is little or no boat traffic, perfect for kayakers. This salt marsh is 8,000 acres and is part of the Colonial Water Birds Nesting Area and the National Estuarine Research Reserve, so it has quite a diversity of bird, marine, and plant life. Your guide is very knowledgeable about the wildlife and the history of the area providing a unique nature experience you can only get in a kayak. This is a great tour for kayakers at all levels of experience. You can usually expect smooth, calm waters during this time, with often low tides.

ZEKE’S ISLAND SUNRISE PADDLE

On this tour, you’ll make your way through the calm, glassy, glistening waters along Zeke’s Island. Paddling through the waters at this time is often very minimal effort, so great for relaxation and enjoying the sights. Oftentimes the moon will still be out, and in the event of a full moon, you may even catch a glimpse of it set as the sun rises. There’s a reason that this tour is a favorite among our guides! You can also expect to see various kinds of birds, fish, and turtles, all dependent on what nature allows!

If you’re looking for both a kayaking adventure and an on-foot exploration for shark teeth, fossils, shells, and more, then this is the right tour for you! Many families and small groups love this tour because you’re able to leave with items from nature that will let you remember the experience for years to come! Sharks Tooth Island fossil and tooth hunting is a day we guarantee you and yours will never forget. There are numerous islands in the river that offer opportunities for exploring and enjoying a picnic with your group.

MASONBORO ISLAND

Masonboro Island is a beautiful, hidden treasure right in front of us between Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. On this tour, we paddle to the backside of Masonboro Island and then walk on a footpath over to a place where the group can go beachcombing, waving, and shelling. You can expect this tour to go at a very relaxed pace with a mixture of paddling and on-foot exploration. While this tour does have a bit more paddling than other tours of ours, it’s not strenuous because the waters are very calm.

Kayak Carolina offers several kayak tours around Wilmington and the Cape Fear region. We have three tours that depart from Fort Fisher and guide you around Zeke’s Island, one tour that departs from River Road Park and guides you around Shark’s Tooth/Kegs Island, and another tour that departs from Trail’s End Country Park and guides you around Masonboro Island.

How much do Wilmington kayak rentals cost?

Our kayak rentals range in price, depending on the style, size, and duration of the rental. Our prices are very competitive for the area, and each rental includes free delivery, seatbacks, paddles, life jackets, trail maps, and instructions if you’d like. Our fleet includes single & double kayaks in both sit-on-top and cockpit styles.

Does Kayak Carolina offer any sunrise or sunset kayak tours?

Yes, in fact we offer both guided sunrise and sunset kayak tours! Our sunrise and sunset tours depart from Fort Fisher and take you all around the Zeke’s Island Nature Reserve as well as Zeke’s Island itself. While the main attraction of this tour is certainly the sunrise or sunset, there are also ample opportunities to see some wildlife including birds, turtles, dolphins and more.

Our kayak tours are conveniently located in Wilmington and Kure Beach. Our tours depart from Fort Fisher, Trail’s End Country Park, and River Road Country Park, which are all 20-40 minutes from downtown Wilmington, 10-20 minutes from Carolina Beach Boardwalk, and 20-40 minutes from Wrightsville Beach.
