Ten Reasons I Book with Kayak Carolina (And You Should, Too)

1. The sun, the sea, and the salt air!

Looking for a way to get out on the water and be at one with nature? Look no farther friend. Here at Kayak Carolina, we pride ourselves on guiding our guests out into the marshes of the North Carolina coast for a day fully immersed in nature. From the time you step out of your vehicle to your departure, you will be greeted with the sounds and sights of coastal North Carolina. From the gentle breeze and quiet of daybreak on our sunrise tour to the bright sun and peaceful lapping of water to the shore at midday, there is no shortage of beauty and wonder. As the wind tussles your hair and moves the marsh grass rhythmically, breathe deep and take it all in. This is a great time to unplug and relax into the water’s gentle current.

2. Fun for all ages!

Family or friends, kayaking is such a fun activity for groups! Family vacation? Pack the kiddos into the car and put some sandwiches and snacks in the cooler. Everyone will have a wonderful time paddling the marsh and spotting the birds flying overhead and the fish jumping up out of the water. Getting the group together for spring break? You can expect to laugh the day away with us as we adventure through secret passageways. No matter the age of our guests, we aim to please. Any group, large or small, is welcome and wanted!

3. Making new friends!

If you’re coming to paddle with us without a group, don’t fret! Our guides are experts on your surroundings, but they’re also friendly and personable. On any given tour, take the time to talk with your guides and get to know them. Part of the reason we love working with Kayak Carolina is that we get to interact with people from all over! Getting to know the people in your tour group is also a great way to connect and make new friends. Who knows? You might meet your new best friend! We would love for you to join us so we can get to know you!

4. Guides with insider tips for kayaking and the Carolina coast!

Speaking of our great guides, next time you’re out with us, spend some time chatting with them. Just a short while ago I had the opportunity to paddle and talk with a guide that was able to give me the inside scoop on all things Wilmington. If you’re looking for local recommendations, our guides know the ins and outs of the area. Our fearless leader, Angela, can tell you all about the best places on the island to search for treasures. We happen to think that you find the best treasures with us, but I encourage you to book a tour and find out for yourself.

5. Exciting new sights every time you paddle!

The wonderful thing about kayaking is that no two days are alike. The waters of the Cape Fear and tides coming in and out carry exciting things with them. The sea birds and ocean life that you may see varies depending on the time of day and the weather, but our guides have seen turtles, dolphins, and all manner of beautiful birds. Depending on how clear the sky is, you may catch a glimpse of the Oak Island lighthouse across the way. We typically see ships and boats passing by as well! You’ll feel the wake as the motors stir up the water as well!

6. Critters and creatures!

I mentioned turtles and dolphins earlier, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg! You can expect to see all manner of coastal fish, crabs, birds, and other wildlife. If you are one of the many that come to North Carolina to try your luck at shelling, be sure to pick up shells carefully and examine the inside. You never know who might be calling that shell home. If it does happen to be empty, we suggest doing some research when you get home and identifying what kind of critter might have lived there at one point. Can you spot the crab in the picture below?

7. Shells, fossils, and shark’s teeth!

The uninhabited islands that we tour are great places to find all sorts of things. On a tour of Shark’s Tooth Island, you will venture out to find, you guessed it, shark teeth! Beware of that first taste though. Once you begin the hunt for shark teeth, you may not be able to get enough. Among the shark teeth, you will find some of the most beautiful shells you’ve ever seen. A rare but exciting find that we sometimes come across is the sea biscuit! These are fossilized sea urchins with the same star pattern as sand dollars and are always a fun find!

8. Multiple launch points throughout the Wilmington area!

Here at Kayak Carolina, we believe that variety is the spice of life. You can take the same tour multiple times and have a new experience each time. Nature is full of surprises! However, if you are in the mood to try something new, we have several options to begin your paddle. We launch from Fort Fisher, Trail’s End County Park, and River Road Park! Not familiar with the area? Head on over to the Launch Point tab on our website for directions and what to put in your GPS.

9. Affordable and personal!

Kayaking is an inexpensive and very enjoyable activity when you book with Kayak Carolina! At just $60 per person for each tour, Wilmington’s coastal beauty is begging to be explored. We take multiple tours out each day, but we do limit the number of people on each tour! This is because we love to make personal connections with our guests! As we meander through the marsh, we have a wonderful opportunity to get to know everyone. There are families kayaking with us today that have been faithful customers since our founding! Don’t worry though, we are sure to launch enough tours throughout the day to accommodate our long timers as well as new faces!

10. Accommodation for every skill level!

But what if I’ve never been in a kayak before? Well, there’s a first time for everything! Before each paddle, we will provide ample instructions and make sure you feel comfortable in your kayak. Safety is of utmost importance, so we provide life jackets as well as beginner lessons. All of our tours are designed for people of all skill levels. Whether you are five or fifty-five, we will make sure that you know your way around a kayak before we put you in the water. Don’t worry though, if you do need assistance along the way, our guides will be with your every step (or paddle!) of the way.
